Russian presidential elections: 4 March 2012

Yesterday, 25 November, the oficial start of the presidential marathon was given with the publication of the election date: 4 March 2012.

Edinaya Rossiya is about to nominate its leader, Vladimir Putin, as their presidential candidate. Other parliamentary parties have already announced the dates for their meetings in which they will elect their candidate, but they will only take place after the Duma elections. (4 December 2011)

Documents for registration have to be presented between 14 December and 18 January. The candidates of non-parliamentary parties need to collect more than 2 million signatures. The registration office will then give their decision within 10 days. Thus, at the end of January, the country its candidates for the presidential elections of 4 March 2012.

On 5 March the preliminary results will be read out and the official results should be published no later than 15 March.
